At Star Soleil Yoga, Healing & Arts we have classes for all abilities. Classes are described as Level 1 or
Level 2 to help you to decide where to start.
The most important tip is to keep your instructor informed about any health related issues you may have. Give yourself permission to adjust the practice to suit your needs. If at any time you have pain during the practice, you should stop, slow down, or do something different.
In a LEVEL 1 class you will find more instruction in alignment and technique. Options are given for students so that they may deepen or soften their experience. Level 1 is appropriate for beginners, as well as students who have studied yoga before but haven't been in awhile. It may also be appropriate for persons with physical limitations. Advanced practitioners will also enjoy a Level 1 class because they will be allowed to explore postures longer and deeper.
A Level 2 class is appropriate for students who have had a dedicated practice for at least six months and are comfortable with their ability level. There is a lot of movement in a Level 2 class and a certain amount of strength is required to get the most out of a class. Level 2 is appropriate for students who have had a dedicated practice for at least 6 months and understand their bodies.
A Mixed Level class may be a combination of both levels depending on who is in class that time. If the class is all advanced students, the instructor may lead a more vigorous practice. If the class calls for a slower pace, then the instructor will lead accordingly.
There are certain guidelines for whichever class you choose. First and foremost, let the instructor know if you have any injuries, recent surgeries, or other medical issue that may affect your practice. Secondly, remember to listen to your own body. If something doesn't feel right to you, don't do it. The true teacher lies within your own body. There is no competition in yoga. Not between you and the instructor. Not between you and the other students. But most importantly not between you and yourself. |
